Baptism and Chrismation

A child is usually baptised on the eighth day after birth, or on any feast day after the Divine Liturgy; a child whose life is in danger may be baptised at once. Chrismation, the anointing with Holy Chrism, follows straight after Baptism, in the same service.

The godparent answers for the child at Baptism and professes the faith in the child’s name; afterwards, the godparent helps the child grow up in the Christian faith. The godparent must be an Orthodox Christian, and the child’s parents cannot be its godparents. It is best for each child to have one godparent.

Baptism and Chrismation are explained in full on the Romanian page (in Romanian).
